After a significant period of waiting, Land Rover has finally launched the Defender in the country. The Defender is based on a new D7x architecture and comes with a completely new design from the ground up. Land Rover has already commenced deliveries of five-door Defender 110, for which the prices start from Rs 79.94 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the three-door Defender 90 are now open and deliveries for said model is set to begin in the first quarter of next year. The 90 model is priced from Rs 73.98 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Defender is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine which produces 295 bhp and 40.7 kgm of torque. This engine comes mated to an automatic transmission, details of which have not been divulged yet. Other than that, it comes in 7 colour options – Fuji White, Eiger Grey, Santorini Black, Indus Silver as well as options such as Tasman Blue, Pangea Green, and Gondwana Stone. There are a further 9 wheel designs to choose from. Point being that the Defender is a highly customisable product. In fact, it has 170 individual accessories and four distinctive packages – Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban.
Off-road capability is paramount as the Defender comes with Configurable Terrain Response and Terrain Response 2 to tackle anything rough. It also obviously comes with 4×4 and is only helped by the all-aluminium monocoque construction of the D7x Architecture mentioned before. Land Rover is also debuting its Pivi Pro infotainment system and features the company’s Electronic Vehicle Architecture (EVA 2.0) supporting SOTA (Software-Over-The-Air) updates. Also, the infotainment system includes a 10-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display. There’s even a 700 watt Meridian Surround Sound System.
