The long wait is over and you can finally put down your order for the new Mahindra Thar! That Mahindra chose its founder’s day for its launch tells us how important the Thar is for the brand. This year, Mahindra is also celebrating 75 years and over the years the Thar has been very important in building Mahindra’s history. At the launch of the all-new Mahindra Thar, Dr Pawan Goenka talks about the Thar’s history and what an icon it has been over the years.
Well, naturally, the new Thar had everyone excited and to keep things fair amongst the Thar lovers, Mahindra held an auction to sell the first unit of the all-new Thar. The first Thar to roll out of the factory has been sold to Aakash Minda from Delhi for Rs 1.11 crore. Mahindra matched the bid and donated Rs 2.22 crore to charity. Even if you can’t get the very first first unit, you can still place an order starting today.
The all-new Thar will be available in two iterations. First up, the AX series or the Adventure series starts at Rs 9.8 lakh and the LX series also known as the Lifestyle series starts at Rs 12.49 lakh.
The AX series variants come with either a convertible, hard top or fixed soft top along with a 6-seat jump seat layout. You can also opt for 4 front facing seats option as well. Other basic features on it include 16-inch all-terrain tyres, dual airbags, ABS and reverse parking sensors.
As for the Lifestyle series, it is available in only a 4-seat layout with either a hard-top, fixed soft-top or convertible roof options to choose from. It’s loaded to the gills with features like bigger 18-inch alloy wheels and a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Both the Adventure and Lifestyle variants can be had with either a petrol or diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Of course, the Thar comes with a 4×4 transfer case as standard to help you out of sticky situations. On the LX variant, you can spec out a 6-speed automatic transmission as well.
