The current generation Chevrolet Beat (sold as Spark in markets abroad) might be on its way out but is surely not getting a jolly farewell. You see like in India, the car is available in the Latin markets with no airbags in the base trim. Which has resulted in a zero-star Latin NCAP rating.
The model tested is called Chevrolet Spark GT, is manufactured in India, and was tested for frontal impact only. Thankfully the structure remained stable but since it scored zero stars, the side impact test wasn’t done. The reason behind the said sad result is the lack of airbags and ‘lack of proper instructions for proper Child Restraint System installation,’ mentions the report.
Another revelation made by the report is that while the Euro-spec Spark gets six airbags and consequently a Euro NCAP score of four stars, the one in Latin markets is similarly priced and has no airbags.
We can relate to that…
But in all fairness it’s an easy fix for Chevrolet. Just include airbags as the standard equipment, Chevrolet!
