Jeep has launched the 5th-gen Grand Cherokee in India, priced at Rs 77.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The all-new Grand Cherokee launch recreated an iconic moment when the SUV has launched 30 years ago, driving through a glass window at an Auto show in Detroit. It is positioned above the Meridian in Jeep India’s line-up, with deliveries set to commence by the end of this month.
In terms of its design, the new Grand Cherokee features a slim 7-slot grille with LED headlamps on either side. It gets LED daytime running lights integrated into the main headlamp cluster and LED fog lamps mounted on the bumper. The all-new architecture and sculpted aerodynamic body style and active grille shutters combine to improve vehicle performance, safety and reliability, while significantly reducing vehicle weight, noise, vibration and harshness.
The Grand Cherokee offers a ground clearance of 215 mm and has a water-wading depth of 533 mm. The SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 270 bhp and 40.7 kgm of torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and gets Jeep’s Quadratrac 4×4 system. It is also able to automatically switch to four-wheel drive mode whenever the system detects the need.
The Grand Cherokee SUV gets a 5-seat configuration. It further comes equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. It also gets rear seat entertainment screens, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and a powered tailgate. Safety features include an Active Driving Assistance System (ADAS), eight airbags, a 360-degree camera and Drowsy driver detection. It also gets a 3-Point seatbelt and Occupant Detection for all five passengers.
