Set to go on sale next year, the all-new, seventh-generation (G20) BMW 3 Series has made its debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show (Mondial de I’Automobile). It’s said to be sharper than before, has more tech, and is roomier than before.
Moving away from the outgoing F30, the new BMW 3 Series comes closer to the new range of saloons in the company’s line up: the 5 and 7. The design elements which stand out the most include new LED headlamps, L-shaped tail lamps, a less evident Hofmeister kink, etc. The car features a wider track, increased body rigidity, improved aerodynamics (Cd: 0.23), about 55 kilos of weight savings, and a longer wheelbase.
The latter opens up more room on the inside, with more shoulder and elbow room. The new dashboard design looks great in photos. It also boasts a new HUD with larger projection surface, an intelligent personal assistant, BMW Live Cockpit Professional all-digital instrument panel, and BMW Digital Key which turns your smartphone into a car key.
Apart from upping the driver assists, BMW mentions that the car has been dynamically uprated, too. The engine options announced with the car include four-cylinder petrol and diesel units, and a six-cylinder diesel. In addition, there are plans to add a plug-in hybrid variant and a more driver-focussed M Performance model at a later stage.
Other tasty bits include optional M Sport differential, M Sport suspension, etc. Full LED headlamps can be upgraded to BMW Laserlight, and if you fancy a bit of showing off, then speccing the car with optional Welcome Light Carpet won’t go amiss. A 16-speaker Harman Kardon unit is optional, and so is wireless charging for phones. The car can also be ordered with an optional glass roof.
