Aston Martin doesn’t believe that a convertible should have any performance handicap compared to a hard-top car. So, when developing the new Vantage Roadster, it ensured exactly that. After all, who wouldn’t like to blowdry their hair at 325 kph, right?
The British marque developed the Roadster alongside the Vantage Coupe, which allowed the company to ‘retain the outrageous dynamic capabilities, allowing drivers to revel at the limit with the added exposure to the elements.’
That made the British marque build the fastest Z-type foldaway roof that can work up to speeds of 50 kph and get the top back or tuck away in as little as 6.8 seconds. With eight levels of insulation, the in-cabin experience is as quiet as the coupe.
But even if it isn’t as quiet, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8’s soundtrack should keep you entertained. With 656 bhp and 81 kgm at disposal, there won’t be any shortage of entertainment. Even though the Roadster has gained 60 kg over the coupe, it still can sprint from nought to 100 kph in 3.6 seconds, which is a tenth slower than its coupe sibling.
There’s more to the Vantage Roadster than that. To compensate for the extra weight, Aston has retuned the rear dampers and used revised mountings for the rear transaxle. With 410-mm carbon ceramic discs up front to drop the anchor and specially developed Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 to keep this ‘grounded’, there’s no disregarding this roadster’s pedigree. Looking at the One-77-inspired widebody stance, you won’t doubt the Vantage anyway.
While there is no word on the pricing yet, it is likely to be around Rs. 4 crore in India. Yup, that’s enough to get you a home, but then again, Why settle for shelter when you can outrun the rain?
