Then – The 1965 Ford Mustang

Ford Mustang’s launch in April 1964 was a monumental success, exceeding sales expectations and becoming one of the most successful vehicle launches since the Model A. As the namesake of the ‘pony car’ segment, the Mustang pioneered a new era of sporty coupes and convertibles, influencing competitors and shaping automotive design trends globally. With its distinctive ‘long hood, short deck’ proportions, the Mustang’s iconic design set it apart, capturing the essence of style and performance synonymous with American muscle cars. Over its production history, the Mustang underwent several chassis evolutions, adapting to changing automotive trends while maintaining its rear-wheel-drive configuration.

Throughout its lineage, the Mustang has been associated with various legendary nameplates like GT, Mach 1, and Cobra, each representing different performance levels and contributing to the Mustang’s rich heritage. Beyond its role as a vehicle, the Mustang holds a profound cultural significance, symbolising the spirit of speed, power, and freedom deeply ingrained in American automotive history, making it a timeless classic beloved by enthusiasts worldwide.

Now – The 2024 Ford Mustang 60th Anniversary

Ford’s unveiling of the 60th Anniversary package for the Mustang in 2024 marks a significant milestone in the history of this legendary muscle car. With six decades of innovation and performance behind it, the Mustang continues to captivate enthusiasts worldwide. Only 1965 examples of the special Mustang will be built, paying homage to the year the Mustang officially went on sale. This limited-production run adds exclusivity to the celebratory model.

The 60th Anniversary package incorporates retro design cues inspired by the original Mustang. This includes 20-inch dark grey alloy wheels with a five-spoke design reminiscent of the original, complete with red centre caps. The package features subtle cosmetic enhancements such as a smoked-out effect for the headlamps, a retro mesh grille design with silver accents, and silver-finished wing mirror caps to mimic the chrome details of the original Mustang.

Available in three exterior colour options – White, Race Red, or Vapour Blue – the Mustang 60th Anniversary package offers contrasting stripes in red or silver at the base of the doors. Inside, it boasts a special 60th Anniversary plaque on the dashboard and upholstery options in grey, black, or red. Under the hood, the 60th Anniversary Mustang is powered by the very well-known 5-litre Coyote V8 engine, delivering a robust 480 bhp and 57.10 kgm of torque. Whether paired with a 6-speed manual or a 10-speed AT, the Mustang promises performance and an unforgettable experience of driving an icon.
