Triumph Motorcycles has teased its upcoming faired motorcycle, and it is already becoming the talk of the town. It is likely that the new bike will be called the Daytona 660. Yes, the ‘Daytona’ moniker is making a comeback after three years.
The teaser reveals the fascia of the new motorcycle and going by it, this does look like a well-proportioned bike. Another image shows the ‘660’ badge on the belly pan, confirming the platform it will be based on.
Triumph’s 660cc inline triple makes 80 bhp and 6.25 kgm of torque on the Trident, and it is likely that the House of Hinckley will give the new Daytona a different engine tune and throttle maps. That said, the electronic nannies and most of the hardware should be identical to its other siblings.
Triumph is all set to unveil the new product on January 9, 2024. Though the British marque has not confirmed the name, the image on the official website is tagged as Daytona 660. Considering that Stuart Wood, chief engineer at Triumph Motorcycles had announced that the Daytona 765 would be ‘the last Daytona that people can own’, this is a surprising move.
With the debut of the Aprilia RS 660, rules of the middleweight supersport segment changed completely, and gave rise to a new breed of ‘mild-mannered’ supersports. The new Suzuki GSX-8S, Yamaha YZF-R7 and the upcoming Honda CBR750R will now be joined by the Triumph Daytona 660. And while loyalists may be disappointed with the bike’s name, this will open a whole new avenue for Triumph, and newer riders.
