Electric, and Royal Enfield? Two words that don’t quite seem to fit in the same sentence, but the bikemaker is actually embracing the electric future in its own, unique way. At the ongoing EICMA 2023, Royal Enfield gave us a glimpse of how it plans to do that, with the Him-E — that’s short for the Himalayan electric.

A production-version of the Royal Enfield Him-E might still be further away

The Him-E has been tested in the rough, mountainous terrains of the Himalayas, making sure that an electric Royal Enfield can tackle any kind of situation that presents itself. Royal Enfield also says that the Him-E has gone through wind tunnel testing in order to better its efficiency numbers. Obviously, no specifications are out yet, but the Him-E gets golden USD forks up front, and a gas-charged monoshock — key firsts for an RE. The seat also seems to spread all the way to the charging port of the motorcycle.

One thing we must clarify is that Royal Enfield does not even call the Him-E a prototype. Instead, the Him-E is a platform for the bikemaker to test its electric components and get all the learnings and insights that it can, which will then be incorporated into the first production-ready electric RE that is due in 2025. The bikemaker has also said that we will see ‘a lot of new concepts in the next few months.’ Therefore, a production-ready Him-E is certain to see the light of the day, but other motorcycles are likely to be placed ahead in the line.

For now, one is limited to just wondering about what a silent Royal Enfield would feel like. Let us know your comments on the same, stay tuned for more and follow us on our social media handles!
