After a surprise visit at the India Bike Week 2023, Kawasaki India has officially launched the new Ninja ZX-6R in India at Rs 11.09 lakh (ex-showroom). Team Green has introduced the supersport in two colours — Metallic Graphite Grey / Metallic Diablo Black and Lime Green / Ebony, but unfortunately, not the 40th year anniversary edition.
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R is returning after a three-year hiatus with a bunch of updates, the most obvious of which is the design. This middleweight supersport now flaunts an all-new fascia, and fairing design. But that’s not all. There are a bunch of internal updates too.
There’s a new TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity via Kawasaki’s Rideology app. It also features Sports, Road, Rain and a customisable Rider mode. Though the ZX-6R continues with its 636cc inline-four powerhouse, there are a bunch of internal changes like new exhaust heads, cam profile, and redesigned exhaust system. With all these changes, the performance has dipped a bit.
That said, the hardware used is top-notch. The Ninja ZX-6R uses twin 310 mm discs at the front with monoblocs at the front, and a single 220 mm disc at the rear to drop the anchor. And to handle suspension duties, fully-adjustable Showa units have been deployed at both ends. All that has resulted in a kerb weight of 198 kg.
In India, the closest rival to the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R is the Honda CBR650R which is priced at Rs 9.35 lakh (ex-showroom Gurugram), but has a big performance disadvantage. So, if you are on a lookout for a serious middleweight supersport, the ZX-6R should be a great company.
