The very same floods in southeast Spain have caused a double whammy: one for the Formula E pre-season test and another for the MotoGP season finale, affecting operations at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo Circuit. Severe flooding has tragically claimed at least 150 lives, damaged vital infrastructure, and occasioned Formula E to shift its pre-season test to Madrid’s Jarama Circuit, while the MotoGP finale is in question.
Formula E originally had been slated to run its pre-season test for its latest GEN3 Evo cars and their woman’s test debut in Valencia from November 4-7 but announced a move to Madrid’s Jarama circuit for November 5-8 to avoid straining resources needed for relief.
Things are no different in the MotoGP world, either, for whom the Valencia finale, from November 15-17, is also under question. Circuit director Nicolas Collado explained that “urgent repairs” are needed to track access and parking areas if the event is to be safely held after more than 200 litres of rain fell on the site in less than 12 hours.
MotoGP has stated that it is setting up contingency plans. Could this mean a venue change or even a postponement of the rematch finale?
A venue change has been suggested by manufacturers and riders in MotoGP, though a final decision is yet to come!
