Just a day before the most anticipated motorcycle show of the year — EICMA 2024 commences, Yamaha has unveiled the new Tenere 700. At the first glance, it may look just like the current model, but it has received a bunch of significant small updates.
The 2025 Yamaha Tenere 700 comes with the same CP2 689cc parallel-twin mill as before and continues to produce 72 bhp and 6.9 kgm. However, just like the 2025 Yamaha MT-07, the Tenere 700 also comes with ride-by-wire tech. This has given Team Blue the opportunity to arm the ADV with two ride modes — Sport and Explorer. The bike now also finally features traction control along with three-level ABS which can be adjusted via the new 6.5-inch TFT display or simply completely turned off with the press of a button on the side of the console.
Yamaha has also made subtle changes to the design. For starters, even though the quad-LED headlight setup remains identical to the older model, the LED projectors are now rectangular and inspired by Yamaha’s rally bikes. Now, the fuel tank has been moved forward, and the fuel cap doesn’t protrude anymore. The repositioned fuel tank is claimed to aid weight distribution. And complementing that is the new bodywork which makes the bike narrower, and easier to grip with the legs while off-roading.
Making off-roading easier is the new suspension setup. The bike now comes with fully-adjustable 43-mm USD forks and a new monoshock with progressive linkage. There are no changes to the brakes or wheel setup. While the frame itself remains unchanged, there are tweaks to the triple clamp and the exhaust mounting point.
Along with the standard Tenere 700, even the Rally variant has received the same updates, and more. For example, the Tenere 700 Rally features a new rallybook-style layout on the console, wider footpegs and upgraded suspension components offering 230-mm travel at the front and 200 mm at the rear, which has resulted in an astounding ground clearance of 255 mm.
The Yamaha Tenere 700 has been the one of the most sought-after ADVs in the market considering its capabilities, and with these updates, it makes for an even more enticing proposition. However, Yamaha has so far abstained from getting its big bikes to India, but we hope that changes soon.
