For decades, ‘Tata car’ has been the simplest way for Indians to describe a car made by Tata Motors. Now, Tata is making that everyday phrase official. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has unveiled TATA.CARS, a new customer-facing identity that will bring its entire passenger vehicle line-up under one name, from hatchbacks and sedans to SUVs and electric cars. The new identity comes with a simple motto: ‘Nothing’s Too Far’. Tata says it reflects its belief that mobility should help people go further, dream bigger and get closer to the things that matter to them.
Shailesh Chandra, MD & CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, puts it rather neatly: “In many ways, Tata.cars is an identity India has given us. Today, we formally embrace it.”
The change will gradually be seen across Tata dealerships, showrooms, digital platforms, service centres and marketing communication. The idea is to give the company’s entire passenger vehicle range one common identity, while Tata.ev will continue as a sub-brand for its electric cars.
Importantly, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd isn’t going anywhere. It remains the company’s legal name and will continue to be used for official documents, regulatory filings, contracts and investor communication. The familiar Tata oval on its vehicles also remains unchanged, as do the individual names of its cars and SUVs.
The ‘Nothing’s Too Far’ motto is built around a fairly straightforward idea. Tata believes a car can be more than just a way of getting from A to B — it can help people chase opportunities, travel further, experience new things and pursue their ambitions. The company says this isn’t a new belief, pointing to its long history of using mobility to make new possibilities more accessible.
There’s a new look to go with the new name, too. One of its key elements is called ‘Parallel Pathways’. In simple terms, it takes inspiration from the shape of the Tata ‘T’ and the parallel lines you see on roads. Tata says it represents the different journeys people take through life — everyone may have a different destination and take a different route, but all those journeys move forward.
Then there’s Ambition Blue, which is a fresh take on Tata’s familiar blue. The company says the new shade represents optimism, confidence and forward movement. There’s also a new bold typeface called Parallel Display, along with a new sound identity designed to evoke a sense of victorious energy.
Tata wants customers to encounter this new identity throughout their interaction with the brand. That means everything from discovering a car online and visiting a showroom to buying one and getting it serviced will increasingly carry the TATA.CARS name and look. The aim is to make the experience feel more consistent whether someone is buying their first car, upgrading to a premium SUV or switching to an EV.
The move also reflects how much Tata’s passenger vehicle business has changed over the years. The company points to its first indigenously engineered passenger car, its work in making five-star safety a mainstream consideration and its efforts to make electric mobility practical and accessible. It now has the trust of more than seven million customers and one of India’s strongest SUV portfolios.
Chandra says Tata believes its biggest ambitions are still ahead. “Today, we proudly introduce TATA.CARS. More than a new brand identity, it is a declaration of intent for the future we envision,” he said. He adds that the company wants TATA.CARS to help customers “unlock new possibilities and pursue their ambitions without limits”.
So, don’t expect a new Tata badge on your next car. The cars remain Tata cars, and the familiar Tata identity stays firmly in place. TATA.CARS is simply the new name Tata is putting around the whole lot.
