Tata Motors has officially launched the all-new Sierra.ev, bringing back one of India’s most recognisable SUV nameplates in an all-electric avatar. Prices for the Sierra.ev start at ₹ 18.79 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), with bookings now open and deliveries set to begin from July 15.
Built on the company’s Acti.ev+ dedicated electric vehicle architecture, the Sierra.ev aims to combine premium SUV appeal with long-range practicality and genuine performance.
One of its biggest talking points is range. Tata claims an ARAI-certified MIDC range of 665 km, while the more relevant real-world figure stands between 510 and 530 km from its 75 kWh battery pack. The company has also introduced a lifetime warranty on the high-voltage battery for the first owner, a move that could help ease long-term ownership concerns for EV buyers.
Charging speeds are equally impressive on paper. Tata says the Sierra.ev can add up to 263 km of range in just 15 minutes using a compatible DC fast charger, while a 20 to 80 per cent charge takes around 26 minutes under ideal conditions.
Performance has also received plenty of attention. The range-topping dual-motor QWD version produces 225 KW and 51.3 KGM of torque, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.8 seconds with Boost Mode engaged. Alongside the all-wheel drive system, the Sierra.ev also gets six terrain modes including Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock Crawl, reinforcing its SUV credentials beyond city limits.
The dashboard gets a triple-screen setup called Horizon View, paired with the Arcade.ev digital ecosystem. Buyers also get a 12-speaker JBL Black audio system with Dolby Atmos and Tata’s SonicShaft soundbar, promising a theatre-like entertainment experience.
The SUV comes equipped with a head-up display featuring augmented reality graphics, AirConsole in-car gaming, a 540-degree HD surround-view camera with transparent mode, powered seats, a panoramic sunroof and an e-Valet suite that enables remote parking, summon mode and automatic park assist.
Practicality has not taken a back seat either. Tata claims the Sierra.ev offers a class-leading 622-litre boot, while the cabin has been designed with lounge-like comfort in mind. Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Vehicle charging functions are also included, allowing the SUV to power external devices or even charge another compatible EV.
The Sierra.ev is also packed with connected features. It gets Tata’s iRA.ev connected car platform with over 70 functions, over-the-air software updates through the T.iDAL 2.0 architecture, DrivePay for in-car UPI payments, an intelligent EV route planner integrated with Android Auto, and a Level 2+ ADAS suite comprising 22 advanced driver assistance features.
Visually, the production Sierra.ev stays remarkably close to the concept showcased over the past few years. It retains the upright proportions, distinctive glasshouse and signature rear-quarter window that made the original Sierra such an icon, while modern touches such as full-width LED lighting and flush surfaces give it a contemporary identity.
With the Sierra.ev, Tata is entering one of the fastest-growing segments in the Indian market with a product that blends heritage with modern technology. On paper at least, it ticks almost every box buyers expect from a premium electric SUV, offering long range, quick performance, advanced technology and genuine SUV capability. Whether it can recreate the cult following of the original Sierra remains to be seen, but it certainly has all the ingredients to become one of Tata’s most significant EV launches yet.
