Tata Motors’ Sierra comeback has clearly resonated with Indian buyers, and the numbers speak for themselves. Within 24 hours of opening bookings, the new Sierra crossed the 70,000-confirmed booking mark. What’s even more telling is the bigger picture: nearly 1.35 lakh interested customers have already locked in their preferred variants and are now in the final stages of completing their orders.

So, what’s driving this frenzy? Tata believes it’s the Sierra’s clever mix of old-school charm and modern-day sensibilities. The iconic nameplate is back with a familiar silhouette, but this time it’s backed by contemporary features, multiple powertrain options, and a positioning that aims to sit comfortably in a new premium mid-size SUV space.

Commenting on the milestone, Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, stated that the response reinforces the Sierra’s legacy while also validating its role in creating a new premium mid SUV category. According to Tata, the new Sierra has been developed with a focus on improving space, comfort, safety, and everyday usability, while retaining the identity that made the original model iconic.

The Tata Sierra was officially launched on 25 November 2025, with prices starting at Rs. 11.49 lakh and going up to Rs. 21.29 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and engine choice. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin on 15 January, and Tata Motors is already ramping up production to keep pace with the surge in demand.

Under the hood, buyers can choose from three engine options. The lineup includes a 1.5-litre diesel, a 1.5-litre TGDi Hyperion turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, offering something for both performance-focused and efficiency-minded customers.

In terms of competition, the new Sierra steps into one of India’s most crowded SUV segments, going head-to-head with heavy hitters like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, and Volkswagen Taigun. With booking numbers like these, though, it’s clear the Sierra isn’t just back, it’s back with serious intent.
