Mini India has opened bookings for the new Cooper Convertible, and if you’ve been waiting for a chance to let your hair, scalp, or imaginary curls fly in the wind, December 2025 is your month. Think of it as the iconic 3-Door hatch that finally decided to throw away its roof and live a little. The power-folding soft top drops at speeds up to 30 kmph, which means traffic jams just became your personal showcase moment.
Design-wise, Mini hasn’t gone wild, thankfully. Apart from the disappearing roof, everything else stays true to the hardtop’s charm: the cheeky proportions, the big circular touchscreen in the centre, the row of toggle switches that make you feel like you’re firing up a retro spacecraft, and the textured dash that quietly whispers, ‘Classic, but playful.’
For India, the droptop is expected to arrive in its spicy Cooper S avatar. Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol good for 201 bhp and 30.6 kgm, funnelled to the front wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox. It’s the kind of setup that delivers the right amount of grin while still letting you enjoy a breezy drive without sending your hairstyle into another postcode. Globally, Mini also sells the Convertible in a milder Cooper C tune (161 bhp, 25.5 kgm) and the properly rowdy John Cooper Works version (228 bhp, 38.7 kgm), but we’ll likely get just the hot middle ground, which is not a bad thing at all.
As with the standard Cooper S hatch already on sale, expect Mini to hand over its usual box of customisation toys. Colours, trims, upholstery, stripes, the works. Feature-wise, the Convertible should mirror the hatchback too, with goodies such as a head-up display, powered front seats with memory, tyre pressure monitoring, connected-car tech, and a Harman Kardon sound system to soundtrack your open-air shenanigans.
In short: same Mini charm, less roof, more sun, and a whole lot more personality. The Cooper Convertible is coming, and it’s ready to turn every drive into a tiny celebration.
