Triumph Motorcycles has launched its latest café racer offering, the Thruxton 400, in India at a price of Rs 2.74 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This new model slots into Triumph’s entry-level premium range, joining the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. Based on the same platform as the Speed 400, the Thruxton 400 brings a distinct personality to the mix, one that leans heavily into British café racer heritage.
Visually, it stands out with a retro-styled semi-fairing, a classic round LED headlamp, clip-on handlebars with bar-end mirrors, and a sculpted rear cowl. The riding posture is purpose-built, with low clip-ons and rear-set foot pegs creating a committed stance that reflects its sporty roots. Triumph is offering the Thruxton 400 in four colours, Lava Red (Gloss), Pearl Metallic White, Phantom Black, and Metallic Racing Yellow, each giving the bike a different flavour of vintage appeal.
Under the bodywork, the Thruxton 400 is powered by the same 398 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine as the Speed 400. But it’s been tweaked to suit the café racer character. Thanks to revised cam timings, it produces 41 bhp, 2 bhp more than the Speed 400, along with 3.8 kgm of torque. Paired with a six-speed gearbox, the Thruxton 400 is claimed to hit 0 to 100 kph in 6.7 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 161 kph. That makes it a touch sharper than its siblings, especially at the top end.
In terms of hardware and features, the Thruxton 400 comes equipped with 140 mm USD telescopic forks at the front, a rear monoshock, 300 mm front disc brakes and 230 mm rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Lighting is all-LED, and the bike retains the semi-digital instrument cluster from the Speed 400, complete with an analogue tachometer that fits the retro theme perfectly.
With the Thruxton 400, Triumph is tapping into a niche yet growing segment of riders who want authentic café racer styling without compromising on daily usability or affordability. It brings the spirit of the 1960s to a modern-day platform—delivering vintage aesthetics, accessible performance, and competitive pricing in one very tempting package.
