In a significant step towards promoting sustainable mobility and circular economy practices, JSW MG Motor India has unveiled its fourth pilot project under the ambitious Project Revive. This initiative aims to explore innovative solutions for the reuse, recycling, and repurposing of electric vehicle (EV) batteries, addressing one of the most pressing challenges in the EV industry—battery waste management.

As the adoption of electric vehicles accelerates globally, the need for sustainable end-of-life solutions for EV batteries has become increasingly critical. Lithium-ion batteries, which power most EVs, contain valuable materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel. However, improper disposal or inefficient recycling can lead to environmental hazards and resource wastage. Project Revive seeks to tackle this issue by creating a robust ecosystem for the second-life use of EV batteries.

The fourth pilot project, launched in collaboration with strategic partners, focuses on repurposing used EV batteries for stationary energy storage applications. These batteries, which may no longer meet the demanding performance standards for vehicles, still retain significant capacity for less intensive uses. By integrating them into energy storage systems, JSW MG Motor India aims to extend their lifecycle, reduce waste, and contribute to renewable energy solutions.

The pilot project will test the feasibility of using retired EV batteries in applications such as grid stabilization, backup power for commercial establishments, and solar energy storage. This not only provides an eco-friendly alternative to battery disposal but also supports the transition to clean energy by enhancing the efficiency of renewable power systems.

Rajeev Chaba, CEO of MG Motor India, emphasized the importance of sustainability in the company’s vision. “With Project Revive, we are not just addressing the challenges of battery waste but also creating opportunities for innovation in the EV ecosystem. This pilot project is a testament to our commitment to building a greener future,” he said.

The initiative aligns with global sustainability goals and India’s push for a circular economy. By repurposing EV batteries, JSW MG Motor India is reducing the environmental footprint of electric mobility while unlocking new economic opportunities. The project also supports the government’s vision of achieving 30% EV penetration by 2030.

As the EV market continues to grow, initiatives like Project Revive set a benchmark for responsible and sustainable practices. JSW MG Motor India’s efforts underscore the importance of collaboration, innovation, and long-term thinking in shaping the future of mobility. With this latest pilot, the company is paving the way for a more sustainable and resource-efficient EV industry.
