The Kia EV3 concept was showcased back in October 2023, and it is now all set to make its global debut in production form on May 23. Kia says the EV3 is a compact electric SUV that will be ‘practical and joyful to drive.’ However, the Korean car maker is aiming for a price tag between USD 35000 to 50000, which places the EV3 anywhere between Rs 29.22 lakh to Rs 41.75 lakh, ex-showroom. Whether or not the EV3 makes it here is something we’ll only find out later.
For now, we do know that the EV3’s design follows Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, and also draws some inspiration from the bigger EV9 SUV, blending a boxy shape with futuristic cues. The EV3 will also receive Kia’s Star Map lighting setup as well. In terms of the interiors, we do know that the EV3 follows a minimalist theme, featuring more touch-sensitive panels than buttons. As is the norm these days, a blended-screen setup for the infotainment system and the instrument cluster will be offered. Needless to say, Kia will make use of sustainable materials in its interiors. The car maker was also said to be studying the possibility of using ‘mycelium’ from mushroom roots, to replace the usage of leather and other such materials in the interiors of cars.
Kia remains tight-lipped about the drivetrains, but the EV3 will likely be built on the e-GMP platform, albeit with the 400V architecture and lesser capacity motors and battery. More will be known on May 23!
