There might have been drastic changes at VW globally, but the Indian scene presents a good picture. In November 2016, the company managed to sell 4,014 cars. That, in comparison to November 2015, is a growth of 107 per cent.
It’s obvious that addition of the Ameo compact saloon has helped considerably. It has, along with the new GTI, helped increase the number of VW cars sold in India to six: Polo, Ameo, Vento, Jetta, GTI, and Beetle.
Launches lined up for next year are likely to be those of the new Passat and the Tiguan SUV. Both of these, especially the latter, are awaited. The Tiguan will, for the first time, let VW cater to a new demographic.
The recently spotted Polo TSI 180 might just be what the company needs to increase its appeal to the enthusiast – who don’t necessarily have a quarter of a crore to spend on a Polo. Let’s hope that comes to India soon.
