The Hyundai i20 facelift has finally been launched after its global debut, with prices beginning from Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Yes, that is a price drop, as the earlier asking price was Rs 7.45 lakh (ex-showroom). Unlike the model sold globally though, the Hyundai i20 facelift mainly comprises of cosmetic tweaks and a few additions here and there.
Up front is the new Parametric grille along with a reworked front bumper. The headlamps too are different and receive DRLs on top. The Hyundai logo has now moved to the bonnet, and the front bumper seems to be missing fog lamps, which was not the case in the outgoing model. Strange.
The side profile remains identical and it continues to receive side skirts. However, the 16-inch alloy wheels now receive a new design. The rear features a new bumper with black cladding, which would be useful given our road conditions. Other than that, the rest of the rear remains identical as well, and the new i20 does not feature the connected LED strip across the tailgate, unlike the international model.
On the inside, the Hyundai i20 facelift now receives dual-tone black and grey interiors. However, everything else has been retained, which means you will find the same 10.25-inch touch screen infotainment system, a wireless smartphone charging pad, a USB type-C charging socket, a seven-speaker Bose sound system, the same digital instrument cluster, a reverse parking camera, and a cooled glovebox among others. However, Hyundai is now offering voice commands and one-touch setting for the sunroof. There’s also an ambient sound package that plays sounds inspired by nature. The i20’s infotainment system also receives support for 12 languages, and there are also 52 Hinglish voice commands on offer.
In terms of safety, the i20 comes with six airbags, ABS, vehicle stability management, a tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlamps, and puddle lamps among others.
While the 1.5-litre diesel was already killed off at the onset of phase two of the BS6 norms, the 1-litre turbo-petrol too seems to be missing from the i20 lineup now. This means that the Hyundai i20 facelift now only receives a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 81.8 bhp and 31.7 kgm of torque. This engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a CVT.
The Hyundai i20 facelift can be had in seven different variants, with prices ranging from Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs 11.01 lakh (ex-showroom) for the fully-loaded Asta (O) variant. There are six monotone and two dual-tone paint schemes available, including a new Amazon Grey.
