Volvo Auto India’s new entrant to the premium executive saloon segment, the S90, is going to upset many a rival. Not only does it look neat, its cabin is a special place to be, and at a starting price of Rs 53.5 lakhs (ex-showroom), it promises to achieve anything and everything the S80 couldn’t.

Engine options include a 2-litre diesel (like all new Volvos), currently available in the D4 (187 bhp, 40.8 kgm) while a more powerful D5 unit will be made available later. It’s front-wheel drive, has a good amount of space inside, and is a fitting saloon equivalent to highly revered XC90 SUV, with which it shares its underpinnings.

The 9-inch vertical infotainment system is very much present in the S90 as well, offering easily one of the best infotainment experiences out there. The S90 is also the longest in the segment (at 4963 mm) hence also offering a great amount of space inside. In comparison to the S80, it has a longer bonnet and a larger glass area.
The Inscription Luxury trim means the car is loaded to the brim. That of course includes a 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system. The Nappa leather seats are ventilated, the dashboard and the upper door panels are is covered with leather and also get seat extenders for the front seats.

There are three drive modes, an independent air suspension at the rear, and a plethora of safety features. That, apart from the airbags, include lane keeping aid, emergency brake assist, seatbelt pretensioners on all seats, etc. There’s also Run Off Road Mitigation, which ensures that you don’t unintentionally go off the road.
