It’s a sad day in the motoring world when a model is put to bed, but Bentley discontinuing the Mulsanne is even sadder because the 6.75-litre Rolls-Royce/Bentley engine, in production since 1959, is also being laid to rest after 61 years of service. Bentley is building 30 more Mulsannes, all of which will be ‘6.75 Edition by Mulliner’ cars as a swansong for the engine. The aforementioned engine makes 530 bhp and a mountain-moving 112 kgm of torque. Among other special-edition touches, the 6.75 Edition comes with interior trim inspired by the engine oil cap. The Bentley Continental Flying Spur will take over from the Mulsanne, and the VWAG W12 will supersede the 6.75-litre V8, but nothing can truly replace it.
