The Renault Kwid, launched a little less than two years ago, has been a success story for the French carmaker in India. The company has just announced that more than 175,000 units of the Kwid have been sold already.

Available in two engine and two gearbox choices (0.8-litre and 1-litre; MT on both and optional AMT on the latter), the Kwid offers faux SUV styling in a small form factor. That, along with optional features like touchscreen infotainment system, helped Renault find and cater to an untapped audience in the segment.

Priced at Rs 2.62 lakh onwards, ex-showroom, the affordability and frugality helped the Kwid’s case even further. The company has also passed the GST benefits, ranging from Rs 5,200 to Rs 29,500, to the customers.

Renault India’s CEO and MD, Sumit Sawhney said, “Renault KWID has proved its mettle in the fiercely competitive mini hatchback segment in India. Since its launch, we have introduced product enhancements and innovations at regular intervals in keeping with evolving customer behaviour and preferences including the CLIMBER and AMT versions. Indian customers favour products that are contemporary, offering the best value proposition. We are grateful to our customers for the trust bestowed in the Renault brand and will continue to make the KWID more accessible to customers across the country through our growing dealership network.”
