Maserati is gearing up to showcase another new model, a one-of-a-kind spyder. The model will be based on the MC20 coupe, and christened as the MC20 Cielo. The Global Premiere of the car from the Bologna based company will be on the 25th of May 2022.

The Trident brand reveals that the name of the car is characterised by a special ‘Sky Feeling’. This makes sense since the car will be a convertible. The MC20 Cielo also makes its sporting vocation obvious, as MC stands for Maserati Corse (racing) and the 20 refers to 2020, the year that began the brand’s new era. Cielo (sky) highlights the fact that it is a model devoted to driving pleasure in the great outdoors. All this while also maintaining all the prerogatives of a true super sports car.

The engine specifications and the rest of the details of the MC20 Cielo are yet to be confirmed. But since it is based on the MC20 coupe, it will probably share the same powertrain and drivetrain. The MC20 is a rear mid-engine car and it is powered by the brand’s F1-derived Nettuno 3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 621 bhp and 74.44 kgm of torque. The MC20’s engine is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the rear wheels.

The new spyder model is 100 per cent made in Italy. It has been developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena and produced at the historic Maserati plant in Viale Ciro Menotti, as is the case with the coupe.
