Maruti has launched the Baleno at an introductory price of Rs 4.99 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The Baleno is Maruti’s premium hatchback offering and will slot in above the Swift and will compete with the likes of the Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20.

The Baleno will offer two engines, an 83 bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 74 bhp 1.3-litre diesel engine. The petrol is rated at 21.4 kpl and the diesel at 27.4 kpl as per the ARAI cycle. The Baleno has been developed on a new platform that is lighter and stronger, and will be assembled exclusively in India and exported to over 100 countries. The features list remains similar to that of the S-Cross, but the Baleno also gets Apple CarPlay, a feature that the company claims is an industry first for the Indian market.

The Baleno will be sold exclusively through NEXA dealerships, the second model after the S-Cross to be sold at Maruti’s premium range of dealers. It will be available in a total of six different exterior colours; orange, white, silver, red, gray, and two different shades of blue.
