Mahindra has officially stated in a press conference that the first quarter of 2023 will see the launch of an all-electric version of the XUV300. The all-electric sub-compact SUV was first displayed at the 2020 Auto Expo as a pre-production concept.
Mahindra will use the body structure of the longer SsangYong Tivoli on which the XUV300 is based. This will be to offer more boot space for the EV. The eXUV300 concept from the 2020 Auto Expo showcased a near-production model. It only gets a few cosmetic changes over the regular internal combustion-engine XUV300.
Concerning the design, it gets a closed-off grille and vents on the front bumper and blue highlights along the body. It also showcased rear-view cameras and uniquely designed wheels and headlamp internals.
Mahindra is yet to announce details regarding the powertrain and battery. It will be the first among a range of electric vehicles planned by Mahindra. The company also recently signed an agreement with Volkswagen over the possibility of using MEB platform components in its upcoming range of ‘born electric’ models.
The eXUV300 will go up against the popular Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max when it arrives in the market next year. With electric vehicles soon gaining popularity, Mahindra is keen to get an early start on the action.
