Chevrolet has just issued a release stating that the Spin MPV will not go into production. Instead, the next big launch will be the Beat Activ mini-crossover that was displayed at the Delhi Auto Expo. This is part of the next generation of Chevy vehicles that will be launched in the Indian market, which includes the new Beat, Essentia, and Beat Activ. These are in addition to the new Trailblazer and facelifted Cruze that were recently launched.

We really do like the Beat Activ concept that was displayed at the Auto Expo – it had all the rights bits and proportions. The same was true of the Beat when it was launched; it was so cool, in fact, that it even played a role in a Transformers movie. Unfortunately even the best-in-market fuel efficiency of the diesel engine (at the time of launch) couldn’t entice enough consumers to put their money down on the Beat to make it a bonafide sales success, but the Activ’s sharp styling and crossover format should be able to attract a fair number of customers.

Expect the Beat Activ to be launched sometime next year, and to go up against the likes of the Toyota Etios Cross, as part of the two year new model launch program for Chevrolet India that includes all the models mentioned here. Of them, the Trailblazer and new Cruze have already been launched, and that makes the remaining launches the new Beat, Beat Activ and the Essentia compact sedan. Expect all of these to launch by the end of 2017.
