Hyundai’s luxury division, Genesis, has been making some excellent coupés and sedans but for some reason, it’s stayed away from SUVs. Until now. The Genesis GV80 came out earlier in the year and now, the smaller GV70 follows suit. This will directly compete against the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, Audi Q5 and other luxury crossovers in that segment.

The GV70 is built on the G70’s platform and as a result will be available in rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations. Similarly, it will also share engine options with the G70. Internationally, it will be available with a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol engine. Diesel options might be available down the line as well.

Outside, the GV70 takes on Genesis’ new corporate face which includes split headlights and a large chrome grille. In this form factor, the design really seems to come together into a cohesive package. In addition to the standard model, there’s also a Sport variant with larger wheels and aggressive bumper covers.

Inside, the GV70 looks properly luxurious with interesting colour combinations and well laid out controls across the dash. For lovers of tech, the honking big infotainment screen above the physical controls should be an indication of all the tech this car will be packing.

The GV70 will be sold in the US market early next year. As for India, we think this would be the perfect car to kick-off the Genesis brand here!
