BMW India has launched the all-new, third-generation BMW X3. The mid-sized SUV is locally produced and competes with vehicles like the Volvo XC60, Audi Q5, and Mercedes-Benz GLC. For now it’s only available in a diesel-powered version but a petrol-engined X3 will be launched later this year, the company has confirmed.

It moves away from the second-generation version’s design, boasts a larger footprint, a styling approach that makes it look more grown up, and of course quite a lot of features. There will be two trims to choose from: Expedition and Luxury Line.

Weighing around 55 kilos lighter than the version it replaces, the new X3 comes with a locally produced 2-litre diesel engine. It makes 187.7 bhp and 40.78 kgm. And with the eight-speed automatic transmission (comes with paddle shifters) and xDrive AWD system, it helps the X3 hit 100 kph from a standstill in 8 seconds.

The new BMW X3 gets a pair of fully adaptive LED headlamps, BMW Display Key, Welcome Light Carpet, Reverse camera with Park Assist, and also wireless charging. A 12.3-inch screen is the new-age instrument console, while a 10.25-inch touchscreen system handles in-car entertainment. The latter has sound channelled through a 600-watt Harmon Kardon surround system.

BMW hasn’t skimped on driver aids, either, with standard fitments like DSC, cornering brake control, auto-hold electric parking brake, attentiveness assistance, ABS, etc. There are six airbags in total, and ISOFIX child seat mounting points are available, too.
