The production version of the Alfa Romeo Tonale is finally here! This is also Alfa Romeo’s first compact SUV that will take on the likes of the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, to name a few. Moreover, it comes with two conventional hybrids, a plug-in hybrid and a standard ICE powertrain option.

First up is a 271-bhp 1.3-litre MultiAir inline-four engine as seen on a number of Stellantis vehicles. That’s good enough for the Tonale to zip from 0-100 kph in 6.2 seconds. Also, the 15.5-kWh battery pack delivers up to 80.4 km of electric-only range. Also, there are two 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engines available, both with 48-volt mild-hybrid systems and variable vane turbochargers. The entry-level Tonale produces 128 bhp, while the mid-range Tonale yanks out 157 bhp, which is identical to the non-hybrid 1.6-litre diesel. All three powertrains use a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the hybrid powertrain is paired with a regular 6-speed automatic.

From the Concept Tonale, which was unveiled to the world back in 2019, the production version has retained its clean curves. This one sits on a modified Jeep platform with wider track widths. Inside, the things are, again, clean and minimalistic. It features a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 12.5-inch fully digital instrument cluster.

In the future, Alfa Romeo’s considering developing an all-electric and a Quadrifoglio variant as well. We hope that Tonale brings in the much-needed revenue for the Italian brand.
