After the success of the 790 Adventure series, KTM has decided to go bigger with the 890 Adventure R and R Rally. Both these upcoming motorcycles are based on new engine platforms with more power and torque. And while the 890 Adventure R Rally will be sold in limited numbers and will be available on order, the 890 Adventure R is expected to reach showrooms in select countries by November 2020. Would India be a part of that select group? Only time will tell.

First up, the KTM 890 Adventure R improves on the riding experience provided by the 790 Adventure family. The Adventure R comes with an 889cc, twin-cylinder, DOHC engine that produces 103 bhp and 10.19 kgm of torque. That’s a whole 10 bhp and 1.2 kgm more performance than the 790 series. Furthermore, the Adventure R comes with fully adjustable WP XPLOR suspension, overhauled ABS software and new traction control algorithms. There’s also a whole list of improvements overall.

The 890 Adventure R Rally is a whole different animal in some respects. This will be a limited edition version and only 700 units will be sold worldwide, out of which 200 are reserved for the US market. The rest of the 500 will be sold globally. The same 889cc motor does the job here and will have updated electronics and an Akrapovic exhaust which is 35 percent lighter than the standard one. Other than that there’s the WP XPLOR Pro suspension, rally footpegs, straight seat, clear screen, winglets, racing graphics, a quickshifter and rally ride mode as standard.
